Potentially Dangerous Details Leaked to Twitter by Dell Founder's Daughter

By Colleen Lynch, TMCnet Contributor

Michael Dell (News - Alert), CEO and founder of Dell, Inc., is reportedly furious with his teenage daughter. No, she did not forget to do her chores, but what she did could cause serious problems for her father and the security of his family and company.

Dell’s daughter Alexa, 18, posted her high school graduation dinner invitation on Facebook and Twitter (News - Alert). The reason this is such a big deal is the invitation detailed exactly where her father, one of the leading business magnates of the world, would be at a specific time in the coming weeks.

Michael Dell spends $2.7 million every year to ensure the security of himself and his family, and suddenly the expensive assurance was turned to waste by an unthinking teenage daughter.

Dell shut down Alexa’s Twitter account post-haste, but the damage may have already been done. What gets posted online stays online regardless of whether or not Alexa’s account was deleted, so now the Dell family has something to worry about.

Now, anyone with an Internet connection could have a good start to a kidnapping or extortion plan.

There has been no word yet on whether Dell and his wife will still attend the graduation, but if so, the Dell family will have to be wary.

Alexa was in the habit of posting intricate details of her every move on both Facebook (News - Alert) and Twitter, from exact arrival times at various destinations like New York City, to the stores she frequently shops at.

In order to avoid a fiasco like the one depicted in the movie “Taken”, Dell, Inc. and other companies are finding themselves spending an increasing amount of money on security companies. Rich CEO’s and their families are prime targets for any number of dastardly plans, not to mention security breaches which would affect entire corporations rather than just the top dogs.

Personal details abound online in today’s age, so the temptation to post every little detail is growing. Still, there is a difference between what is harmless to share, and what should be kept offline, and Dell’s daughter is learning this lesson the hard way—disconnected from her favorite social media site Twitter. Alexa may be the first, but likely won’t be the last, to land herself in this position.
