Sharp Set to Ship New iPhone Screens to Apple this Month

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

When the iPhone (News - Alert) 5 gets mention, tech analysts the world over sit up and take notice. In fact, when the iPhone 5 gets mention, consumers the world over sit up and take notice as well. Part of the reason for the increased attention to the newest iteration of the iPhone is because Apple (News - Alert) has done so well at keeping news of the device under wraps. Most rumors about the iPhone 5 do not come from the phone maker themselves, but rather from companies who are putting together the different components.

New rumors circulating today seem to hint that Apple is almost ready to go public with the iPhone 5. Sharp (News - Alert) Corp.’s president, Takashi Okuda announced recently that his company would begin shipping the screens that will eventually outfit the newest iPhone.

Okuda was giving a talk on his company’s quarterly earnings when he let slip that Sharp would be sending the screens the company produced to Apple later this month. Many industry analysts have said they believe Apple will unveil the new iPhone 5 in early October, just in time for the fall and winter shopping season. While Okuda did not give any other details as to the iPhone 5, many people say that Apple is planning on a major product launch on September 12th and it is here most think the new phone will take center stage.

The newest iPhone is expected to have a bigger screen than any other iterations of the device, partly as an answer to Samsung’s (News - Alert) latest Galaxy Smartphone, which will have a 4.8-inch screen. The newest iPhone screen is expected to be four inches, corner to corner. The four inch screen will end up being about 30-percent larger than what has been the norm for Apple. Other reports reveal that the new iPhone screen will be thinner, thanks to brand new technology. This new tech allows sensors to be built into the liquid crystal display, eliminating the need for a touchscreen layer that the current iPhones employ.
