Android-Based Gaming Console Brings 'Final Fantasy III' to New Gaming Machine

By Lyndsay Krisel, TMCnet Contributor

If you thought Xbox, Play station, and Wii were big gaming systems, you better double check that Christmas list for your kids, because the gaming machine that is soon to capture the attention of many is the Ouya.

The $99 game machine is said to be the next big gaming system, which has recently raised more than $3 million to produce the machine in only a matter of two days.  “We never anticipated that it would blow up like this.” Said Ouya founder Julia Uhrman.

OUYA, the new Android (News - Alert)-based gaming console, is certainly on its way to becoming a legitimate system, as it has also just announced its combined efforts with Square Enix, in order to bring “Final Fantasy III,” to the new gaming machine.

The Kickstarter-funded project consisting of more than 45,000 backers, and nearly $6 million pledged towards its $950K goal, marks the first time the role-playing game is available on a console outside of Japan. Gamers who became fans in the U.S. didn’t get the opportunity to play the 22-year old game until Nintendo DS adopted it in 2006, however, this will be the first time it will be viewed on a TV instead of a handheld device.

“The console market is pushing developers away,” say Ouya’s creators on the Kickstarter page. “We’ve seen a brain drain: some of the best, most creative gamemakers are focused on mobile and social games because those platforms are more developer-friendly.”

Excitement for this OUYA definitely seems to be rising, and is currently schedule for a March 2013 launch for a price under $100, and its independent developers are most certainly proclaiming positive thoughts and quotes behind the finely tuned gaming system.
