It’s no secret that DVR and streaming services have put tension on revenue from commercials. Networks make money off selling ad time, but people who use these services often skip over commercials to watch a show without interruption. The biggest appeal of DVR and streaming services is that people can watch TV on their time, not when the network airs the shows. A struggle always exists on how to create a platform that includes convenience while still selling air time. Jivox announced that the company has developed a new platform that will fulfill this need.
The company created a new ad insertion that is compliant with HTTP live streaming (HLS) for not only apps that stream videos, but mobile sites as well. This means that advertisers can insert ads while people watch programs from their mobile devices. Advertisers now have an entirely new method of selling products to consumers on the go with smartphones and tablets.
“Viewers are increasingly accessing broadcast content from multiple devices and this requires a seamless approach to advertising,” said Diaz Nesamoney, CEO of Jivox in a press release. “With our platform advertisers are guaranteed that their interactive video ad can be seen by their targeted audience no matter what screen they are watching. This extends the reach and engagement of their TV ad buy.”
According to Nielsen Soundscan, 163 million unique visits from the United States were counted on streamed videos in May 2012, and when on the Internet over 26 billion videos are currently streaming. Jivox’s solution allows companies to tap into this viewership unlike the past. The biggest benefit of this new platform is that it allows advertisers to share videos over mobile devices that do not support flash, such as Apple’s (News
