Spotify Radio Announced New Update to Android

By Lyndsay Krisel, TMCnet Contributor

Spotify (News - Alert), the popular radio app, recently announced an update to its Android app that adds the free, custom streaming radio, designed exclusively for iOS and desktop users.

The service is available for both free and premium Spotify users, as well as allowing unlimited streaming of artist, song, playlist or album-based radio stations to Android (News - Alert) devices.

Each time a user hears a song and rates it with thumbs up, the song will go directly to a “Liked from Radio” playlist on their phone for easy access. The app comes with loads of other new features as well, including slide-out navigation, a new home-screen widget and sharing new social features.

“For all our Android users, this Spotify update is a huge leap forward,” said Spotify VP of products Gustav Sodertrom. “We’ve rebuilt it from top to bottom, making it faster, slicker and much better looking.”

“The feedback we got from the preview we released a few back was really positive,” he added. “We wanted to give out users something special – we really hope you like it.”

The press release gives a full explanation of what is specifically included in the app, now available on Google (News - Alert) play as well.

A premium subscription is required in order to receive music, as with all Spotify Mobile apps, but rest assured it’s worth the price.
