'Stunning' New iPhone Case Doesn't Just Protect Your Device

By Lyndsay Krisel, TMCnet Contributor

Are you a fan of those high-tech secret agent or police-like gadgets, that you often see used in action movies or on television? Then this new invention might just peak your interest.

A new iPhone (News - Alert) case known as the Yellow Jacket is just like any other cover case out on the market these days, except for one small difference: it’s a stun gun, capable of delivering 650,000 volts of electricity to anyone causing you harm.

The idea surfaced from a traumatized man out of Louisiana who had been attacked, and made the genius decision of channeling his anger into intelligence. He had invented the case, which doubles as a stun gun, to create a protective secret weapon people can carry with them at all times.

Let’s be real – if you have an iPhone, you’re most certainly glued to it at all times, especially in a sticky or unsafe situation. So if you’re uncomfortable carrying a firearm around, what better way to defend yourself than with your cell phone?

The case comes fully equipped with its own built-in battery, which provides the charge necessary for zapping an attacker, as well as an extra 20 hours of battery life between charges.

I know what you’re thinking: who would ever purchase a cover that can give off that much electricity voltage? Someone is bound to accidently injure themselves. But the Yellow Jacket is actually quite safe. Much like an actual firearm, the case comes with a safety switch on it to keep from going off unintentionally, and if you do in fact manage to shock yourself, well then let’s just say there are reasons these things often come with a warning label that says, “Keep out of the reach of children.”

These precautionary measures are specifically intended to “prevent unintentional shocks from occurring,” according to the company, so shocking yourself would most likely just result in a few necessary therapy sessions.

As of right now, the Yellow Jacket is being pitched on its fundraising website, and hopes to meet its goal of reaching the market. When it does finally get approved, it will be available in three colors: black, white and pink, and will retail for $125.

Get ready to throw out the old, simple iPhone covers, because smartphones are now becoming smart-safe phones, capable of protecting your life with one zap.
