Facebook to Act as Head Hunter?

By Lyndsay Krisel, TMCnet Contributor

Based on a recent report, it seems as though the popular social networking site Facebook (News - Alert) will be helping companies find new employees. A soon to be established job board has drawn some speculation, according to Dow Jones, who explained that the networking giant began preparing job postings from third- party services such as BranchOut, Jobvite, and Work4 Labs. It has been said that the entry will follow up on LinkedIn’s (News - Alert) territory, declaring the two sites as archrivals.

The report explains much about how Facebook does not aim to compete within the job market and how it doesn’t seem as though it has been something for other marketing sites to really sweat over.

One source stated, “It doesn’t feel like a big effort that they’ve worked on for a long time, it feels lightweight.”  However, another recently posted article mentions that Facebook’s newly inked partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor was planned to “explore and develop systems where new job postings can be delivered virally through the Facebook site at no charge.”

The ultimate response in regards to a new jobs board is that the move is not a major new direction or revenue source for the company, so why even talk about it and make other professional networking sites nervous about some competition? The article on one hand proves an interesting and distinct point, since, according to the first article’s reports, the competition has been a bit drawn out between Facebook and LinkedIn, when there is really no clear-cut evidence of recruitment. If there were, then I’d say we might have a little friendly rivalry going on in the market but until then, the social sites should aim to keep their newsfeed scarce.
