Chromebook Crazy: Google Markets Chromebooks in Retail Stores

By Lyndsay Krisel, TMCnet Contributor

Open the book, and you’ve now got Chrome, nothing but the Web. Recently, Google (News - Alert) has decided that it is time to bring its official line of Chrome OS-powered Chromebooks to brick-and-mortar retail stores, as announced today during its Google I/O developers event in San Francisco.

Much like the way Apple (News - Alert) has delivered its products, the Chromebooks will now be available for customers fresh out of Best Buy retail stores. When Google first addressed its release of these Chromebooks, they explained that the new line would be available for pre-order on Best Buy (News - Alert) and Amazon websites, however, after today’s declaration, the new high-powered net-books will be available in a physical location for customers to pick-up at their convenience.

Currently, Best-Buy is the largest U.S. retailer for these particular products, shown in previous reports, as it is a fairly large deal for Google’s product to be sold here. Whether or not sales will increase due to the new release is another matter to be discovered, since its unique fashion could very well push people away.

The computer’s pricing will range somewhere from $379.99, to $499.99 based on VentureBeat news, and are said to be much faster and smoother than its prerequisites. So, if you haven’t gone Chrome yet, the books are available in U.S stores today.
