Have you ever tried to use the Facebook app for your iPhone (News - Alert) or iPad? It’s not exactly the fastest thing out there. As a matter of fact, using the app on your Apple device is much slower than just using the Safari browser. It has been one of the biggest, if not the biggest complaints about the app thus far.
It looks like, but in an attempt to quash the issues with the app, Facebook (News - Alert) is re-doing the app and getting ready to make it faster than ever before. Perhaps it’s because going through the painful process of an IPO and realizing that the company’s value to advertisers (Facebook’s real customers) is dependent on the number of users that use the site.
By creating a faster app, the company ensures that it can engage users and keep them on the site longer, and exposed to more ads.
Nick Bilton, a technology reporter for the New York Times, got a chance to try out the app and its new speed. The app reportedly shows a significant increase in the amount of speed given to the average browsing experience in the app. For the time being, however, the company is keeping it close to the chest, and the update will be released on an as yet unspecified date in the future.
Those of you looking give the app a try are just going to have to wait a while longer. For now, the folks at Facebook have not given out a lot in the way of specifics about whether or not the company is also planning on re-releasing the app for Android (News - Alert) users as well, and whether or not the update to the app is going be adding more features than speed to the app.
