Samsung SDS Selects Ciena Optical Mesh Network

Samsung (News - Alert) SDS Co. Ltd. has just sealedthedealwithCiena to gain access to its range of intelligent packet-optical switching, packet-optical transport, carrier Ethernet and on-center management suite services.

Samsung has been hanging on to its outdated ATM and MPLS-basednetworks, which just don’t cut it in the business and IT world today.

Vice president at Samsung SDSs Infra Tech Team, Ryu HaeKwang explained the impact in which this new partnership will have on the company’s infrastructure, stating, “Unplanned network downtime can not only disrupt customer-facing services, but it can also impact revenue and cause long-term damage to our brand. With Ciena’s proven solutions and mesh technology, we are able to take control of our network to ensure that our applications are constantly available and that employees can work normally, even if there is an issue in one part of the network.”

If there’s one thing that Ciena’s OneConnect Intelligent Control Plane excels in, it’s handling unexpectednetworkdowntime. According to Ciena, its platform offers distributed intelligence to make sure that network capacity is always well-balanced - even in the case of network failure.

Making use of Ciena’s ON (News - Alert)-Center INM/SLM network management suite along with Specialist Services, costs stay down while network stability remains healthily consistent.

Since opticalmeshnetworks rely on automated control plane technologies, a solid 99.9 percent uptime is always guaranteed, with the annual downtime averaging out to about 31 seconds a year.

Anthony McLachlan of Ciena noted that, in being a part of the highly competitive electronics industry, IT is a necessary asset and downtime is simply not an option. “Samsung’s network is a blueprint for the kind of high-capacity network featuring carrier-class reliability that can handle the intense volume of data that large multi-national corporations generate, and to help them ensure that their network can survive any disruption to maintain business as usual,” he said.
