Despite struggles with its IPO, Facebook (News - Alert) is moving forward with plans the company hopes will only strengthen its standing in the social networking community. One big move that could make Facebook that much more popular is the launching of a Facebook App Center. 

The Facebook App Center should be especially appealing to the dozens of developers that have created games and other applications for the site, as it will make it easier for users to find something they are looking for.

There are now so many different applications and services available for use on the site that some can be lost in the shuffle. Most don’t hear about a game or app until they see a friend using it. While word of mouth works well on a social site, the App Center will boost some of the lesser known applications.

There are other reports that Facebook could launch the App Center later today, though Friday or Monday seems more likely. The sooner the better for the site, though, as they need to demonstrate to those developers that they are very interested in keeping them around.

No one connected to Facebook is giving official confirmation of the launch or when it will be.

Still other reports suggest Facebook is having an “Apps and Drinks” event with some of the site’s most well known developers. It would only make sense that the App Center would be divulged, if not officially launched during this particular event. Once enough of the site’s app developers have been let in on the launch, it only makes sense to go fully public. 

Of course, Facebook has about four of these events a year, but the timing of this one, along with the rumors, seem to be more than coincidental.

Facebook is also set to implement a public voting system for its next set of terms and regulations.
