TeleCommunication Systems Gets 35 New Patents

By Patrick Lambert, TMCnet Contributing Writer

TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert), Inc. produces mobile communication solutions, selling to various businesses and organizations around the world, and develops new technology to create highly reliable and secure connections through various platforms. Every few months, they publish a press release showcasing the patents they acquired during that period of time.

The company has announced their latest endeavors, having received 35 patents related to the mobile location and mapping fields, along with public safety, messaging and wireless data.

The patents covered by this press release covered several areas of expertise. This new group contained 13 mapping and mobile location patents, which covers navigation, route determination and points of interest, along with techniques for tracking users.

More specifically, they include things like a system for dynamic estimation and predictive route generation, stateful voice prompting, off-board navigation solutions and retrieving spatial information from a user's location.

The aim of these patents is to provide new benefits for the computation of mapping information in devices that receive position updates so that users can be monitored, along with planning the analysis of such devices.

Some of the other patents include more specific point of interest technologies, such as device-based triggers for pushing location events to a server, predictive point of interest localization and a method for identification of positions.

Several different navigation systems now use points of interest as a value-added solution. Pulling a map from a smartphone, for example, will often activate all sorts of points of interest locations, such as nearby bars, restaurants and so on.

Using apps that include location aware systems will often offer PoI services as well. This allows companies to get more data as to where their users are, and pinpoint their interest more precisely.

TeleCommunication Systems is a major player in secure mobile communication technology, and provides infrastructure that enable things like E911, text messaging and commercial location solutions, deployable wirelessly around the planet.

TCS also launched cloud computing initiative, focused on mobile access and hyper local search.
