Facebook (News - Alert) has announced that in the coming weeks, users can expect an “App Center.”
On its Developer Blog, Facebook said the new App Center will help people find social apps that will give developers new ways of growing their apps, and create opportunities for apps to be successful.
The App Center will be accessible via iOS and Android (News - Alert) Facebook apps, and developers have been encouraged to start preparing to ensure their apps meet the guidelines so they can be included in the launch.
The App Center will now become the central place for finding great apps in the likes of Pinterest and Spotify (News - Alert) among others.
“Everything has an app detail page, which helps people see what makes an app unique and lets them install it before going to an app,” said Aaron Brady, maintaining that each app’s success will be determined by its quality. “The quality of an app will be measured using a variety of signals like ratings and engagement. New app ratings have also been introduced that will help users rate and report on an app over time. As people enjoy using and commenting on a particular app, the app will be prominently displayed.”
The App Center is designed to help grow Facebook mobile apps. When a user wants to download an app, he/she will be sent to the App Store or Google (News
- Alert) Play, depending on the device. App developers will be required to create an app detail page, which will act as the landing page for non-users. Developers will be allowed to offer paid apps for a flat user fee.
The app will nonetheless have to be downloaded from either the App Store or Google Play. Some of the guidelines that Facebook has put in place when submitting apps include the requirement to have simple imagery for the app, banners and screenshots. Apps that submit their details before May 18 will be given priority.
