Are You an Organ Donor? Put it on Facebook.

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

Facebook (News - Alert) has a ton of different uses for the people who frequent it. Of course on occasion, people find many of those uses to be the height of time-wasting. There have been numerous stories about people who had to force themselves away from the site because they realized they were using it a bit too much.

A new function, allowing people to add whether or not they are organ donors to their timeline, now means the site has engaged the things that can encourage people to pursue good things in the real world, such as becoming organ donors themselves.

The site announced the new feature on Tuesday and said that users could not only highlight that they are donors, but add a story to explain why they became donors in the first place.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg (News - Alert) and COO Sheryl Sandberg posted a joint statement in which they discussed those who look to become donors will find a link to the official organ donor registry in the same application.

This will allow Facebook users to easily register on their state or national registry from inside the site, meaning that there is no longer a reason not to be a donor, as long as you don’t have a legitimate problem with the practice.

Facebook continues to grow at a ridiculous rate when it comes to popularity. The site reaches more than 100 million people around the globe. While the site is still reputed with being a digital playground, it’s gaining respect among several different sectors.

A new report shows that businesses are seeing the correlation between their employees’ happiness and their access to the social networking site. Facebook adding potentially life-saving functions can only help Zuckerberg’s baby gain a more positive reputation.
