SUITS Conference Explains Important Issues on Patents, Intellectual Property

There may have never been a more important time to understand the changing climate regarding obtaining and holding patents in the telecom and technology fields.

This week, experts from both the public and private sectors will explain how to protect patents and intellectual property during the highly-anticipated SUITS Conference. Collocated with ITEXPO East 2012, the Synopsis under IP/Patents Telecom Sourcing (SUITS) Conference, starts on Feb. 1. It is being held at the Miami Beach Convention Center.



The programs are aimed at innovators in telecommunications and IT. It is ideal for those who work in or are: developers, implementers, licenses, licensors, end users, carriers and enterprise patents.

For example, the keynote presentation speaker will be Evangelist Berny Dohrmann, chairman of CEO Space, who will speak on Wednesday between 2:30-3:15 pm. In addition, during Wednesday’s luncheon the keynote speaker will be Michael A. Rouleau, senior vice president, Business Development and Strategy, at tw telecom (News - Alert). He is responsible for developing tw telecom’s overall strategic direction as well as integrating new technology and services.

Other sessions include respected patent attorneys such as: Christopher Douglas, who works at Alston and Bird LLP; Loren Donald Pearson, a partner at Assouline & Berlowe; Todd Juneau, a partner at Juneau Partners; and Mark Terry, a partner at the Terry Law Firm.

Important inventors and patent holders will also make presentations, such as Keith Bergelt, CEO of Open Inventors Network; Mark Hewitt, CEO at MetroCore Holdings; and Jeff Dalton at Patent Strategies.

Some of the session topics include: “Who Is at Risk, Cause and Effect, Wait Till You Are Sued,” “Endgames for Trollers – Are Trollers Friend or Foe?,” “Who is coming after you for Infringement and how to Protect yourself,” and “The Role of Inventor Vs. Adding to Existing Patent – Know Your Rights.”

Panelists and speakers will also explain to the audience how recent legislation affects the ability to secure new patents, seek to license old patents, how to protect all patents and IP, and the rights from both sides.
