Security Outfit Launches Cloud-based Disk Encryption

By Paula Bernier, Executive Editor, IP Communications Magazines

DigitalPersona Inc. has launched a new cloud-based full disk encryption solution called DigitalPersona Pro Workgroup SaaS.

The solution can be used by any size organization, but the sweet spot for DigitalPersona Pro Workgroup SaaS (News - Alert) is implementations with up to a few 100 seats, says Fabio Santini, director of product marketing at DigitalPersona. Managed service providers also can leverage this solution to expand their service portfolios.

DigitalPersona Pro Workgroup SaaS aims to ease security management and costs for organizations. Rather than installing security software, and the hardware on which it runs, and managing all that infrastructure, IT staff can simply manage security from a portal. Administrators can use the portal – which can be accessed remotely via the Internet – to configure, enforce and report on disk encryption policies and to recover access to locked computers in the event of an emergency.

“We have seen an extraordinary amount of demand for full disk encryption. For SMBs, the majority of available solutions are over complicated, difficult to deploy and time consuming to mange, so they simply chose to go unprotected,” says Adam Trussler, sales director at C-MI Labs. “DigitalPersona’s new cloud-managed disk encryption solution resolves these obstacles and opens up new revenue opportunities for us in the process.”

The SaaS offer is available for between $24 and $48 per computer per year. The company provides the same functionality in a software package that businesses can install and manage at that own locations; that’s available for between $50 and $100 per seat.

DigitalPersona is a private, 10-year-old company whose technology is employed by more than 100 million users. Its two main areas of focus are finger-printing sensors, which are used in OEM partner solutions, and security software and services.

Health care, financial services and government are DigitalPersona’s strongest verticals. Santini says the company partners with large PC makers like HP to integrate DigitalPersona technology into their solutions to target specific industries such as health care. He adds that DigitalPersona also is working with a PC manufacturer on a major initiative to appeal to small businesses.
