Talari Networks Wins Industry Honors As It Uses New Approach to Build Enterprise WANs

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

Talari Networks (News - Alert) has been selected for major industry honors as it continues to offer a “revolutionary” approach to building enterprise WANs at economical prices.

During an interview with TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert), Andy Gottlieb, founder and CEO of Talari Networks, notes several trends in the current market.

“Cloud, obviously, is what everyone is talking about,” he said. “With my customers, I’m not sure how many are implementing it whole hog – at least in the wide area network portion of their business. But they’re definitely interested in a way they can take their network and prepare it for the future, when the CIO or the applications team says, ‘Hey, I want to move more seriously to the cloud.’ So that’s been a boost for us.”

Another boost comes from the fact that every year or two organizations need more bandwidth on their network, he adds.

Even though bandwidth needs to grow, given the new apps, richer media and video, budgets are not growing much, if at all.

In addition, the telecom carriers are not bringing down their monthly costs, he said.

“The carriers do have this one part of their business where they charge you much less for your bandwidth and that’s the public internet. And that’s where we come in. We allow customers to use the public internet. And get a whole lot more bandwidth for less money without sacrificing reliability,” Gottlieb said.

When it comes to prices, Gottlieb adds the carriers are not going to “crash prices. It’s just going to crash their margins and their revenue.”

The interview was done at Interop 2011, held in Las Vegas, where Talari Networks won a “Best of Interop 2011” award for “performance optimization.”

The accolade recognizes Talari for optimizing network performance while also reducing connectivity costs, according to a company statement.

In another recent recognition, Talari Networks was named a "Cool Vendor" by Gartner (News - Alert), according to a Talari press release.

The company was listed in the April 5, 2011 report, "Cool Vendors in the Enterprise Communications (News - Alert) and Network Services."

"Vendors described in this research offer new and innovative cloud- and network-based communications solutions that are broadly applicable to small and midsize businesses and large enterprises. They focus on facilitating user access to unified communications and collaboration, while improving network efficiency and management, as well as cost-effectiveness," Gartner said.

Talari Networks is also delivering its new approach to building enterprise WANs via its Adaptive Private Networking (APN) technology for WAN Virtualization, according to a company statement.

In other company events, Talari Networks last year received funding from Menlo Ventures (News - Alert), Silver Creek Ventures and private investors. The funding totaled $10 million. Gottleib said the company used the new money to expand its sales force in the North American and European markets.
