Become a 'NARSissist' with Makeup Tutorial Site

By Tammy Wolf, TMCnet Web Editor

If you find yourself constantly searching for ways to spruce up your daily makeup routine, it’s time to sit down in front of the mirror, break out your makeup brushes and color palettes and start practicing. You’re about to become a “NARSissist.”

Cosmetics company NARS, known for its lineup of vivid makeup palettes, has launched a microsite packed with detailed makeover tutorials for the ultimate how-to beauty experience. Derived from a forthcoming release of a makeup guide book from NARS founder and creative director Francois Nars, the site gives step-by-step directions for simple and edgy looks perfect for both day and night.

A visit to the site, makeupyourmind.com, features 12 unique looks that each include 12 detailed steps for completion. As a makeup guru who often visits sites like YouTube (News - Alert) to find expert application tips, I couldn’t help but squeal at the thought of such a prestigious company (and one of my favorites) providing me with this insight.

By clicking on “Express Yourself” beneath one of the choices (a more natural, smoky-eye look), it prompted me to upload a photo of yourself. From foundation to eyebrow shading to the final stroke of mascara, the tutorial takes you from bare-faced to beauty in an easy, fun process. The finishing touch? An uploaded head shot of yourself that officially confirms your NARSissist status.

There’s an incentive to uploading your photo: NARS will be offering 13 prizes to the women who upload photos of their makeovers on the site, and the look to garner the most votes by Aug. 31 will receive a backstage pass to New York Fashion Week next February.

According to NARS, the site is meant to give users an idea of how makeovers will appear when applied by beginner hands on an array of complexions. Thanks, NARS, for helping to bring out our makeup talents – and the color in our cheeks!
