It is a Nextel Direct Connect messaging-centric device which combines a full QWERTY keyboard and the iDEN line. The Clutch also offers group messaging allowing groups of up to 20 people to send messages to all of them in one go.

“Sprint Nextel (News - Alert) Direct Connect customers are used to the immediate communications offered by push-to-talk devices, but Motorola Clutch i465 with a QWERTY keyboard gives those customers a better way to instantly communicate with friends, family and colleagues,” said Danny Bowman, president of Sprint’s iDEN Business Unit.

“By combining Nextel Direct Connect with text messaging, Sprint customers have two of the most efficient ways to get business done wirelessly,” said Bowman.

Rick Gadd, vice president, Motorola Mobile Devices noted that the Motorola Clutch was designed to give serious texters and talkers multiple ways to get the word out. The full QWERTY keyboard with shortcut keys, IM-style texting and push-to-talk technology which works like a verbal IM enables Sprint customers to keep in constant contact by different modes of communication.

It is Java-enabled and features a digital still and video camera. The Clutch also supports GPS, Bluetooth and other third-party applications, said Motorola.

Bowman pointed out that in the present economic scenario Motorola Clutch i465 will be a dependable and durable handset enabling optimum messaging at a good price. Also Nextel Direct Connect customers will benefit from instant communications in the form of push-to-talk offers, and mobile messaging will allow customers to communicate with others effectively.

Nextel Direct Connect services will help friends and families stay connected. It includes one-to-one push-to-talk communication in less than one second connection time with millions of Nextel Direct Connect subscribers across the nation.
