Juniper Releases "Network Access Control for Dummies"

Juniper Networks has announced the release of its latest booklet, “Network Access Control for Dummies,” which is a hands-on guide for first-timers seeking to set up the NAC technology.

The company – a global vendor of high security solutions for wired, wireless and mobile networks – researches and regularly prints relevant technology white papers. This latest guide helps network and system IT staff to quickly acquire advanced techniques that are essential to systematically set up and operate NAC.

“Innovative businesses are increasingly turning to network access control solutions to grow and sustain productivity and improve security,” said Scott Edwards, director of education services at Juniper. “With this friendly instructional book, our goal is to help administrators achieve this balance and enable flexible, secure and differentiated network and application access. Regardless of their use case or access control challenge, we as a market leader aim to provide guidance that builds user confidence and knowledge to ensure success.”

The booklet is authored by Juniper staff, including: Jay Kelley, product marketing manager for NAC; Rich Campagna, senior product line manager for secure access and unified access control; and Denzil Wessels, technical marketing manager for key business development partners and NAC.

“Network Access Control for Dummies” is published by John Wiley & Sons, costs about $35, is currently available on Amazon.com (News - Alert), and will shortly be made available all over the world on order at any outlet where technical books are sold.

It explains how network and system administrators need to understand, compute, trouble shoot, solve, and review standards based NAC solutions. The book also explains the entire NAC life-cycle management, discusses real-time use case scenarios, and argues that each organization requires its own unique standards driven NAC platform.

NAC essentially determines how users can access applications, equipment, and related infrastructure via a network. An administrator must consider parameters such as bandwidth, Quality of Service, and virtual Local Area Network membership per user per assigned device while defining NAC. A NAC solution should also intelligently and seamlessly be able to modify access permissions based on the network environment’s live status, authentication and pre-assigned priorities.
