Time Warner Cable Selects Nokia Siemens for IMS Network


Time Warner Cable has reportedly selected Nokia Siemens Networks to supply and build a fully integrated, 3GPP and PacketCable 2.0 compliant IP Multimedia Subsystem network.



 
Officials at Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable said the deployment was aimed to provide next-generation consumer applications that will cover company’s existing voice, video and data services.
 
Mike LaJoie, chief technology officer at Time Warner Cable, said the company believes IMS is not only an exciting technology for consumers who want their devices to work together seamlessly, but it also offers the company a cost-effective way to reduce the overhead of managing multiple networks.
 
“Nokia Siemens (News - Alert) Networks has a proven track record with their VoIP and IMS technologies, and we are confident the additional core infrastructure will enable us to enhance the value of services like Road Runner, Digital Phone and others, rapidly and cost effectively,” LaJoie said.
 
Time Warner Cable is utilising Nokia (News - Alert) Siemens Network’s, Interrogating, Proxy and Serving Call Session Control functions, and the next-generation Home Subscriber Server solution featuring Directory Server technology for its subscriber-centric network and services evolution.
 
Ric Herald, Head of Multi-Service Operators, North America, Nokia Siemens Networks (News - Alert) said, “Time Warner Cable is among the first of major operators showing that IMS is here and ready for deployment.”
 
He said that the advantage of choosing Nokia Siemens Networks is that, company IMS portfolio includes a complete integration service capability to enable Time Warner Cable to effectively integrate new technologies into existing systems.
