Comverse Launches Application Store for Service Providers

Comverse, a supplier of software and systems enabling value-added messaging and content services, converged billing and active customer management, and IP communications, announced the launch of Application Store, a fast and cost-effective way for telecom carriers to introduce advanced applications for their subscribers.

The Application Store is part of the Comverse (News - Alert) HUB of value-added services that spans voice, messaging, mobile Internet and mobile advertising. Comverse HUB is a synergistic framework that enables service providers to maximize their business performance and augment their position in the market, the company said.

Application Store helps operators to deploy innovative services such as social networking, location-based services, video, and messaging, but they typically lack the resources to find and test the applications.

“With the Application Store, Comverse reviews each application, which reduces the risks and unexpected costs associated with implementing new services, while speeding time to market,” said John Bunyan, chief marketing officer of Comverse, in a statement.

Declan Lonergan, vice president of Yankee Group’s (News - Alert) Anywhere Consumer Research Group, comments that selecting and launching services from multiple providers takes a long time and is too expensive for both the operators and the application providers when done on a per-application basis.

Comverse identifies innovative offerings from application developers and the markets with the right fit, the company said. After testing, certification and attention to all relevant legal and commercial matters, Comverse installs the products on its Application Store hosting site, allowing operators to quickly and easily launch the applications. Comverse’s strategy also includes a revenue-sharing business model, which further reduces risk and up-front expenses.

The company enables communication service providers to unleash the value of the network for their customers by making their networks smarter. Comverse’s solutions support flexible deployment models, including in-network, hosted and managed services, and can run on circuit-switched, IP, IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) or converged network environments.

Comverse also announced the launch of an end-to-end IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution with integrated voice, messaging and billing services. The solution includes Comverse Netcentrex (News - Alert) IMS core infrastructure, pre-integrated telephony servers, a rich set of converged messaging and value-added services, and the necessary components to support convergent provisioning and billing
