Aicent Intros New Version of mBridge Messaging Solution
By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Aicent reportedly has launched mBridge MMS Virtual Delivery Release 2.0, which allows global carrier partners to offer subscribers a way to send multimedia messages to any non-enabled multimedia messaging service phones across any network.
The new version of the service allows recipients to download and reply to incoming MMS messages from a Web URL link embedded in a short message service notification. The message is delivered through a regular sending process.
Officials say that mBridge latest version also allows subscribers to browse text and images on the Web or a PC using the same URL. Aicent said that subscribers can then download messages if required by a cell phone.
With MMS, mobile subscribers can send messages with pictures and videos. Currently, most of the new phones are equipped with still and video cameras, which makes this type of rich content messaging popular.
Earlier, Aicent customers found it difficult to provide MMS to their subscribers because they had to offer one single network or have a disparate group of networks to send and receive an MMS message.
Officials claim that mBridge solves this issue by extending MMS interoperability to their customers regardless of what network they are on.
In North America alone, according to CTIA (News - Alert) more than 5.6 billion MMS messages were sent in the first half of 2008 – almost as many as were sent in all of 2007. Officials said that MMS will continue its growth in 2009, and their products offer subscribers a global MMS messaging exchange service across all networks.
“Through mBridge and our global, extensive coverage via the world’s largest MMS hub, operators can immediately offer MMS service to their customers,” said MK Chang, vice president of product marketing at Aicent.
This will let operators stay competitive and also offer their users the ability to send MMS messages mobile-to-mobile and globally across any network, added Chang.
Silicon Valley, Calif. based Aicent offers mobile data services that deliver wireless communications services to mobile operators, Internet service providers, and enterprise customers. Company operates a GPRS Roaming eXchange network. Aicent said that its GRX directly connects 63 mobile operators’ 2.5/3G networks.
Last year, Mexican mobile operator Iusacell used Aicent’s CDMA Roaming eXchange service and provided their subscribers CDMA-based data roaming in China during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
