- WorldPort Communications, Inc. announced the
appointment of John T. Hanson, CPA, as chief financial officer. Hanson
will have overall executive management responsibility for WorldPort's financial operations
with an emphasis on raising capital for the publicly-held company. The company provides
international telecommunications and Internet services primarily to ISPs, long distance
carriers, medium and large corporate customers in Europe and North America.
- HarmonyCom, an innovator in broadband service
provisioning, named Peter Middleton as Sales Director-Europe and head of
the new European office in the UK. Middleton will be responsible for establishing the
European headquarters in the UK and using that as a base to extend sales and marketing
outreach throughout Europe.
- Ericsson's Board of Directors announced the
resignation of Sven-Christer Nilsson from the position as President and
CEO of the company. He is replaced by Kurt Hellstrom as President.
The Board has at the same time asked Lars Ramqvist, in addition to his
chairmanship of the Board, to serve as Chief Executive Officer.
- PairGain Technologies, Inc., a leader in broadband
access systems, appointmented Warren Roddy as senior vice president,
North American sales. Roddy assumes responsibility for all of the company's North American
sales activities, including channel relationships with an ever-expanding customer base.
Roddy also will provide strategic sales direction in the region to assure PairGain's
success within emerging carrier markets, while cultivating even stronger relationships
with the company's traditional customer base.
- Mockingbird Networks announced the appointment of Gene
Daly to the position of vice president of worldwide sales and support. Daly
brings extensive executive sales experience and an indepth knowledge of the multinational
long distance carrier marketplace.
- Rhythms NetConnections Inc., a provider of
high-performance networking solutions for remote access to private networks and the
Internet, announced the appointment of Rick Adams to the position of
Chief Marketing Officer.
- Integrated Telecom Express, Inc. (ITeX), an ADSL
solution provider, announced the appointment of Richard H. Forte as
President and Chief Executive Officer. Young Liu, former President and
Chief Executive Officer, will now assume the position of Vice Chairman and Chief
Technology Officer of ITeX.
- Smart World Technologies, a software and telecommunications company, announced the
appointment of Karen Johnson, an experienced telecommunications
executive, as vice president of client services. Her responsibilities include account
implementation, customer service and ongoing support.
- VTEL Corporation announced the appointment of Stephen
Von Rump as president. The company said Von Rump also would join VTEL's Board of
Directors and serve as chairman of a newly formed Executive Committee of the board.
The move came after Jerry S. Benson Jr. resigned his position as
president and CEO to complete his doctorate and nurture his other business interests.
- Wireless communications carrier Leap Wireless
International, Inc. announced the election of John Moores to the
companys board of directors. Moores, who founded BMC Software, Inc. in 1980, served
as the companys president until 1987, and as chairman until January 1992. He also
serves as chairman for several companies such as Peregrine Systems, Inc. and Neon Systems,
Inc.
- Lucent Technologies announced the appointment of David
J. Ayers to the position of vice president of switching hardware development for
its Switching and Access Solutions (SAS) business unit. The SAS group develops,
manufactures and markets switching and access products and software for network operators
and service providers around the world.
- SoftTek Inc., a leading provider of business-to-business Internet Fax Solutions, changed
its name to VillageFax.com which
more clearly identifies the company with its business and target market. The name change
also works to transition the company from its product legacy to its Internet fax service
focus. Along with the name change, VillageFax.com moved its headquarters from Trabuco
Canyon to a more expansive facility in Tustin, both in California.
