Nortel Networks Inca 1010 Telecommuter Delivers Voice
And Data Over The Internet To Telecommuters
Nortel Networks announced general
availability of the Inca (Internet Communications Architecture) 1010 Telecommuter, which
provides integrated data and real-time voice communication to telecommuters via the
Internet- another step toward Nortel Networks' vision of Unified Networks.
The Inca 1010 Telecommuter brings the full range of data and real-time voice services
to remote users at a cost-effective price. The product is Windows 95/98/NT-based software
loaded onto a multimedia PC or laptop. It provides a complete remote-office solution using
a single analog telephone line. Inca 1010 Telecommuter is one of the first key products
from Nortel Networks' overall Enterprise Internet telephony market strategy that was
announced on June 8, which includes Internet-enabled classic telephony systems,
telephony-enabled data communication systems and new systems based on Inca.
Inca 1010 Telecommuter users can make calls using Nortel Networks' Meridian 9617
Universal Serial Bus (USB) phone. The USB phone connects directly to the USB port on any
PC and gives users a familiar device for making calls, while providing the efficiency of
the Telecommuter package. Optionally, users can make calls with Inca 1010 Telecommuter's
softphone, which emulates common features of Meridian digital telephones. The computer is
simultaneously used for data service and for real-time voice communications.
Data and voice traffic flow to and from users through an IP line card inside a Nortel
Networks Meridian 1 communication system at a company facility. The Inca 1010 Telecommuter
application can be used anywhere there is analog phone service. With Inca 1010
Telecommuter remote users now have access to a broad set of classic voice features,
including conference, transfer, hold, message waiting, voicemail access, and class of
service. Calls to a user's office number will automatically transfer to a remote location.
Inca 1010 Telecommuter is ideal for people who maintain traditional offices but need
complete remote access to office computing and voice facilities. It increases productivity
by enabling employees to access a company's communication services remotely, including
from home, a hotel room, an airport or other remote spot. Leveraging existing technology
and a single phone line, Inca 1010 Telecommuter helps companies enhance staffing
flexibility, more easily deploy remote workers, and hold down the cost and complexity of
phone support.
Inca 1010 Telecommuter is available in North America through authorized Meridian
channels.
