Motorola Announces High-Performance SOHO Router For Handling
Integrated Traffic
Motorola's Internet and Networking Group
announced the Vanguard 6425 Multiservice Router, a high-performance router designed to
enable small and branch offices to efficiently handle integrated traffic (legacy, data,
fax, voice and video) over IP, Frame Relay, ISDN or X.25 services.
The newest member of the award-winning Vanguard 6400 series of networking solutions,
the Vanguard 6425 brings the flexibility and affordability of multiservice networking to
the edges of the enterprise.
"The Vanguard 6425 is ideal for small branch offices and retail chain stores
looking for cost savings by consolidating data, fax, voice and video traffic over IP or
frame relay," said Walt Prusak, Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and Product
Management, Motorola's Internet and Networking Group. "These customers can extend the
power of multiservice to the smallest branch without increasing WAN costs. The Vanguard
6425 provides multiple solutions for multiservice networks in one small box," said
Prusak.
The Vanguard 6425's compact desktop design encases both power and flexibility. Its
three slots handle all Vanguard daughtercards, including the 2-port FXS and E&M cards
supporting both VoIP and VoFR simultaneously.
Motorola continues to provide its customers with new features and functionality to meet
their growing needs. Motorola's Vanguard Applications Ware provides scalable software
solutions that give customers the functionality they need while leaving their networks
poised for easy migration to future telephony requirements.
The recently announced Security Applications Ware is a standards-based solution that
uses single DES (Data Encryption Standard) for encryption, triple DES for the symmetrical
key exchange and SAM (Security Association Management), a proprietary key exchange
protocol. Motorola's hardware-based encryption solution provides a significant performance
increase over software-based methods. Motorola is the only vendor whose product line
currently supports both hardware compression and encryption, which makes it desirable for
corporate VPNs.
The Vanguard6400 Series
The announcement of the Vanguard 6425 rounds out the Vanguard 6400 series, which now
consists of three products to meet customers' unique application requirements. The
Vanguard 6425, for small and branch offices, is ideal for customers looking for an
entry-level desktop model. Customers looking for scalability, upgradability and rack-mount
capability, will want the Vanguard 6430, while customers needing maximum capability for
larger branches will find the Vanguard 6450 ideally suited to their needs.
Shipping this month worldwide, the Vanguard 6425, priced at U.S. $2,100, includes IP
Applications Ware as well as the new Security Applications Ware.
