CTBC Bank Boosts Support for Huntsman Cancer Institute Expansion
Today, leaders from Huntsman
Cancer Foundation (HCF), CTBC
Bank, and its parent company CTBC
Financial Holdings will join in a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony,
recognizing the company's major contribution to Huntsman Cancer
Institute (HCI) and designation as presenting sponsor of the Huntsman
Chairman's Circle premier golf event. This gift is part of a multi-year
commitment by CTBC to support cancer research at HCI.
In June, HCI dedicated and opened the Primary Children's and Families'
Cancer Research Center, a world-class facility focused on children's
cancers and cancers that run in families. HCI is a major American cancer
center committed to Changing the DNA of Cancer Care®.
HCI's 225,000 square-foot expansion is made possible by generous donors
including the Jon M. Huntsman Family, Huntsman Cancer Foundation, the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the State of Utah,
Intermountain Healthcare, and CTBC, and thousands of other contributors.
Doubling HCI's research capacity, this expansion includes a
biotechnology center, complete with state-of-the-art genetic sequencing
and imaging equipment. Researchers will leverage the additional space
and technology to study the leading disease killer of children, to trace
familial cancers, to accelerate the development of new treatments and
cancer prevention strategies, and to enhance training programs for the
next generation of cancer researchers.
"From the very beginning, our goal has been to build an unrivaled cancer
treatment and research campus that is at the forefront of scientific
dscovery," said Jon M. Huntsman. "With this expansion, we're one step
closer to realizing our vision to eradicate cancer from the face of the
earth."
"CTBC is proud to support the Huntsman Cancer Institute's
expansion and the opening of Primary Children's and Families' Cancer
Research Center," said Chao-Chin Tung, Chairman of CTBC Bank. "For many
years, CTBC and its founder have focused on supporting families and the
communities we serve," added Noor
Menai, President & CEO of CTBC Bank (USA) and Head of CTBC North
America. "HCI's work is unsurpassed in finding cancer solutions for
families across the globe."
The new Primary Children's and Families' Cancer Research Center is home
to many unique resources and technologies, including cancer
biostatistics, genetic counseling, genomics and bioinformatics analysis,
research informatics, and the Utah Population Database. Designed to
promote collaboration among research teams, this new expansion also
includes a 120-seat auditorium and public meeting spaces on each floor.
"This new research space is essential to HCI's mission to relieve the
suffering of cancer patients by better understanding cancer, and
applying that understanding to the development of new ways to treat and
prevent cancer," said Mary Beckerle, PhD, CEO and director of HCI. "HCI
is more committed than ever to accelerate progress against cancer. We
will now be able to expand our research to address the most devastating
cancer challenges, including childhood cancers and cancers that run in
families. The work we are doing here in Utah will bring comfort and
cures to millions of families around the world."
