Kontron and Cavium to Demo Live 40G Carrier Grade Deep Packet Inspection at Mobile World Congress 2012

Kontron (News - Alert) and Cavium, Inc. recently announced that they will exhibit a live demonstration during the Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2012 that will explain how telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) will be able to reach 1Tbps (1000Gbps) of multi-functional Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) performance on a single integrated COTS hardware/software solution.

The demo will be conducted during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which is scheduled to take place between February 27 and March 1, 2012. The demonstration will feature a 40Gbs AdvancedTCA (News - Alert) DPI-hardened Kontron platform that leverages Cavium’s OCTEON II 32 core processors and Cavium TurboDPI software.

Some of the implementations by TEMs could include carrier cloud-based services that require multi-purpose security of fixed and mobile streaming data as well as network element designs for 4G LTE (News - Alert).

This collaboration between Kontron and Cavium is a result of their ongoing commitment to enable TEMs to significantly lower their time to design and implement new network infrastructure equipment for the service-provider market.

Currently, Kontron has three generations of open standard hardware that have been created with Cavium multi-core packet processors. This new latest project is yet another milestone in offering TEM’S large-scale, application-ready security DPI platforms that will significantly reduce their design.

By integrating Kontron and Cavium hardware and software technologies, it will now be a lot easier to perform an analysis of data streams to identify protocols and applications, inappropriate URLs, intrusion attempts or malware. All this will be available in a single pass at up to 1Tbps (1000 Gbps) performance per system.

There will also be a 40G AdvancedTCA open modular platform populated with Kontron AdvancedTCA Packet Processor (News - Alert) Blades AT8242 that will be leveraged to generate simulated traffic as well as perform various simultaneous traffic analyses.

In other news, Kontron recently introduced the storage and networking server FS3100 , a versatile, multi-function 3U NEBS-compliant platform that is ideal for mission critical streaming media, lawful interception and security/data storage applications. The Kontron FS3100 combines I/O capacity, storage adaptability, network port density and processor performance, all in a 3U, 20” depth platform.
