Allegro DVT Introduces Industry-First HEVC Hardware Decoder IP at IBC 2012

Allegro DVT recently announced that it will introduce the first HEVC hardware decoder IP in the industry at IBC 2012. The company specializes in digital audio and video processing solutions that are based on the H.264/AVC & HEVC standards.

IBC2012 is an annually held conference and exhibition that brings together professionals who focus on the creation, management, and delivery of electronic media and entertainment content across the globe.

HEVC or "High Efficiency Video Coding" is the latest in video standard that the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC) team is currently developing. JCT-VC was created by the ISO/IEC (News - Alert) Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG). The new standard of HEVC is expected to bring about 50 percent savings on bitrate over H.264/AVC encoding. JCT-VC is planning to have HEVC ready for ratification by ISO and ITU (as ISO/IEC 23008-2 MPEG-H Part2 and ITU-T Rec.H.265) by the end of January 2013. Once developed, HEVC decoders will be used in devices such as camcorders/DSC, digital TVs, PCs, set-top boxes, smartphones, and tablets among others.

The new HEVC decoder IP has been based on the expertise gathered through numerous hardware video IPs which have been developed by Allegro DVT. Leveraging the HEVC decoder IP, customers of the company will now be able to tape-out HEVC capable SoC once the standard has been finalized and established.

Allegro DVT’s suite of products which include H.264/MPEG-4 AVC|SVC|MVC and HEVC solutions, codec and decoder hardware (RTL) IPs, as well as multiscreen encoders and transcoders are leveraged by more than 100 leading IC providers, OEMs, and broadcasters. The company's clients include leading Silicon vendors, Set-top box, mobile phone and DVD player manufacturers, as well as Satellite, cable, and telco operators from across the globe.
