Sprint (News - Alert) Nextel is reportedly going to unveil the first mobile phone for its new WiMAX network at the CTIA Wireless (News - Alert) show to be held next week, March 23-25, in Las Vegas.
According to published reports the device -- called the Supersonic, made by HTC (News - Alert) -- will be the centerpiece of a keynote by Sprint Chief Executive Dan Hesse.
Sprint is racing against rivals Verizon (News - Alert) and AT&T to become the first wireless provider to roll out faster 4G services in the US. Except AT&T and Verizon aren’t using WiMAX – instead they will be deploying 4G networks based on the competing Long Term Evolution or LTE (News - Alert) technology.
