Ericsson to Show 56 Mbps Wireless Router

Mobile substitution, a growing problem for landline voice providers, is expected to become a potential issue for broadband access as well, as wireless broadband speeds grow. Ericsson, for example, will demonstrate a 56 Mbps wireless router at the CTIA Wireless conference.

The demonstration will highlight a consumer device can be used anywhere broadband access is needed, sharing a mobile-broadband connection between multiple consumers and providing efficient use of the high-speed broadband connection.

The new technology is scheduled for commercial deployment in 2010. By the end of 2009, Ericsson (News - Alert) says it will support commercial deployment operating at 42 Mbps.
