Motorola this week at CTIA (News - Alert) introduced its new plug-and-play desktop device for indoor WiMAX deployements, the CPEi 150. The 802.16e-compliant, Wave-2 ready device is part of Motorola’s WiMAX (News - Alert) consumer product line.
Motorola develops technologies, products and services for the mobile industry. It focuses on communications infrastructure, enterprise mobility solutions, digital set-tops, cable modems, mobile devices and Bluetooth accessories. The company is committed to delivering next generation communication solutions to people, businesses and governments.
Motorola’s (News - Alert) CPEi 150 plug-and-play device features one data port and supports remote management. It operates in the 2.5GHz band and automatically connects to the WiMAX network and authenticates itself for easy setup.
An graphical interface present in the device enables users to troubleshoot and personalize their services.
“Service providers are turning to fixed, portable and mobile WiMAX to extend coverage and add more wireless voice, video and data services to satisfy subscriber demand,” said Motorola senior vice president Fred Wright (News - Alert), who oversees Motorola’s WiMAX, LTE and other wireless technologies. “We continue to roll out products that enable data-rich and bandwidth-intensive applications for fixed, portable and mobile WiMAX users and deliver on the promise of media mobility.”
The CPEi 150 is scheduled to be available for service providers during the second quarter of 2008.
Motorola has collaborated with other companies such as Intel, Clearwire and XOHM at various events in order to offer mobile WiMAX “test drives” using real-world WiMAX applications, demonstrating WiMAX from an end user’s perspective.
At CTIA, Motorola demonstrated WiMAX using that company’s PC cards.
