DeviceAnywhere Unveils its Metrics Report at CTIA Wireless 2011

At CTIA Wireless 2011, DeviceAnywhere announced the latest edition of the DeviceAnywhere Metrics report.

“Working directly with over 15,000 mobile application developers and QA testers from across the ecosystem we have a unique insight into the broader trends in mobile application testing,” Faraz Syed (News - Alert), chief executive officer of DeviceAnywhere said in a press release.

“The DeviceAnywhere Metrics report provides both our customers and the industry as a whole with unique intelligence to cut through some of the hype and speculation that surrounds mobile application development,” Syed added.

DeviceAnywhere has been offering end-to-end solutions for mobile application testing, test automation, QoS monitoring and certification enabling organizations to bring better applications to market faster. Based on over 350,000 hours of testing by over 15,000 mobile application developers and QA testers, Device Anywhere Metrics report helps enterprises in making educated mobility choices around the most popular devices and Operating Systems.

This month’s DeviceAnywhere Metrics report indicated RIM to be maintaining its role position as the most tested on manufacturer and operating system despite decline. Despite an overall decline of 13.6 percent over the past 12 months, RIM is indicated have the highest total share of smartphone testing time (45 percent) which is almost twice as much as Android, who holds the number two spot.

RIM devices are said to be the most tested on all monitored networks, including AT&T (News - Alert), Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile, because of this, RIM has 11 models in the top 20 most popular devices by manufacturer compared to four handsets for Apple (News - Alert), three for HTC and two for Motorola.

DeviceAnywhere Metrics report also indicated Android as the fastest growing platform for mobile application testing. The report said that despite a slight decline in testing time share in the last quarter of 2010, Android saw a 1.7 percent rise in usage in January 2011, achieving the largest percentage increase (19.4 percent) in testing over the past 12 months.

Other than RIM and Android, the report also mentioned the testing on HTC devices to have steadily grown in popularity throughout the year, moving up from 6th to 4th position, while Motorola is said to have maintained its leading place as the second most tested device manufacturer in the past 12 months.

Android OS devices are also indicated as the most tested smartphone OS devices on the Verizon (News - Alert) and T-Mobile networks, second most tested on Sprint, and third most tested on AT&T. Windows Mobile and Symbian Experience is said to be seeing a steep decline. Windows Mobile is said to be seeing the most dramatic decline in testing time share with its usage plummeting from 16.2 percent in December 2010 to 6.1 percent in January 2011. Symbian testing is also said to be declining over the past 12 months, from 4.9 percent in January 2010 to 3.1 percent in the beginning of 2011. Moreover, DeviceAnywhere users are said to be focusing testing time on smartphones.

“With increasing pressure amongst handset and operating system companies to attract developers, 2011 looks to be another year of transformation for the mobile ecosystem,” Syed continued.

DeviceAnywhere also reported that it will now offer mobile developers worldwide with application development solutions through DeviceAnywhere's Virtual Developer Lab (VDL) for Brew. Click here to read TMC’s (News - Alert) report on this news.
