This week at Comptel in Las Vegas, Overture Networks and Hatteras Networks (News - Alert) announced the anticipated merger of the two companies is finally complete.

Overture CEO, Jeff Reedy (News - Alert), and president Kevin Sheehan exclusively told TMCnet that the merger was a long time coming as they have maintained a growing relationship over the years.

“With the merger completed, our united teams are focused on delivering a universal Ethernet services platform to a market hungry for greater freedom of choice,” said Jeff Reedy, chief executive officer (CEO),Overture Networks. “Our customers and partners are gaining unfettered access to the widest range of leading-edge Carrier Ethernet edge and aggregation platforms pioneered by two best-of-breed market leaders with established reputations for quality and excellence.”

In the past, Hatteras Networks has provided a copper Ethernet solution, while Overture focused on Ethernet TDN solutions. The two companies, both headquartered in Research Triangle Park, NC, will now come together to provide a more complete Ethernet service for its customers.  Now, instead of just targeting a sub section of the market, the merged companies can tackle the industry together.

Service provider customers around the world now have greater access to the broadest array of Carrier Ethernet solutions and services from an even stronger global partner.

According to Overture, the merger comes at a great time since the Ethernet market is so hot right now and there is no technology on the horizon behind it.
