Atheros Communications, Inc., a provider of technologies for wireless and wired communications, presented new connectivity features and applications for the computing, networking and mobile markets at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show this week.  

 

Atheros’ (News - Alert) showcased demonstrations show the company’s commitment to delivering technologies and solutions for its customers to build products and launch applications that connect, share and work together with simplicity and ease.

 

Atheros is featuring the Wi-Fi/Powerline Communications/Ethernet router reference design. This reference design combines quality and performance of Atheros’ XSPAN 11n, AMP powerline, and ETHOS switch technologies to deliver robust, whole home network coverage. Atheros is able to address the networking issues in the home, enabling HD-capable whole home coverage, seamless HD content delivery and easy installation and set up. Atheros is leveraging its chip and system integration capabilities for mass market adoption of products based on the combination of its WLAN, PLC and Ethernet.

 

Also at CES (News - Alert), Atheros will be demonstrating its newly announced powerline system development kit to support smart grid applications in the digital home. Smart homes with Home Area Networks use Atheros’ PLC technology to control and monitor home appliances, and tap into the Smart Grid through smart electricity meters.

 

For the digital home, Atheros’ enhanced video capabilities over independent WiFi (News - Alert) and powerline communications links demonstrate robust link performance and high quality-of-service for uninterrupted HD video transmissions from room-to-room or from the Internet.

 

For notebooks and netbooks, Atheros’ smart combination of its Align 1-stream with Bluetooth solution, the AR6133, expands functionality for a better mobile computing user experience.

 

Atheros’ Direct Connect 2.0 enables easy file sharing, syncing, remote desktop access and more, while complying with the forthcoming WiFi Direct standard.

 

Atheros’ ETHOS controllers, for notebooks and netbooks, utilizing smart Ethernet technology, deliver power savings to Atheros customers. Also, its low-power design, ETHOS technology employs advanced techniques such as the ETHOS Cable Diagnostic and Automatic Power Savings, which provide substantial energy efficiencies to extend battery-life in PCs.

 

For smartphones, mobile gaming devices and other portable CE products, Atheros’ AR6003 family improves upon AR6002 in performance and power savings, delivering up to 85 Mbps of actual throughput and enhanced rate-over-range.

 

For personal navigation devices, netbooks, smartbooks, mobile gaming devices, media players and smart phones, the new Atheros AR1520 and Atheros FYX 1.0 software suite provides greater navigation accuracy, faster location fixes, enhanced receive sensitivity and lower power consumption.
