A New Mobile Storage Device from Seagate

Seagate (News - Alert), a company well known for its storage devices, has taken a step toward making it easy for you to “take all your stuff with you.” This year at CES (News - Alert) 2013, Seagate will display a new storage device designed for the mobile user.

The Wireless Plus is a new Wi-Fi mobile storage device, creating its own Wi-Fi network with the capacity of connecting up to eight standard devices or three HD devices. This is an easy way to connect your smartphone or tablet.

In essence, it is an external hard drive that has a small, lightweight and flexible design. Mobile devices can access the Wireless Plus using the Seagate Media app.

In addition to its Wi-Fi feature, the Wireless Plus also features a removable USB 3.0 adapter. Users can also easily upgrade to Thunderbolt technology or FireWire 800 with add-on adapters that can be purchased separately.

The USB 3.0 adapter is backward compatible with USB 2.0. The device has a one terabyte capacity, which should be enough room for up to 500 high-definition movies.

Along with the terabyte drive, the USB and Wi-Fi connections, the Wireless Plus also boasts a battery capable of 10 hours of continuous use. One can use it to connect to a Wi-Fi and then share that Internet connection to the Wi-Fi devices connected to it as well.

Through this feature, you don’t need to manually add each of your devices to a new Wi-Fi network every time that you move around. You connect the Wireless Plus and everything else is automatically connected to the Internet. It works by supporting different types of Wi-Fi hot spots, including those that require you to sign in via a browser.

Individuals can use the Wireless Plus to back up mobile devices either on demand or by scheduling an automatic backup. This is done with PC or Mac, and Android (News - Alert) or iOS devices.

Gizmodo found it to be a super convenient tool to have around. Seagate’s media app works with both iOS and Android devices. It lets you stream information from up to 150 feet away. Not only do users not need a wireless network; Seagate's mobile solution creates its own.

So if you simply want to surf the Internet from your tablet and you don't have a data plan, you can hook up to Wireless Plus.

Seagate is not only adding more storage space to your mobile devices, but it seems to be making them more mobile. It’s giving you more connection options that you may not have had before.

The unit will sell for $200.
