Dolby PC Audio Technologies Demonstrated at 2011 CES Optimizes Entertainment Experience

Dolby Laboratories announced the introduction of a new suite of audio technologies, which forms part of the fourth generation of the Dolby PC Entertainment Experience program.

Acer (News - Alert) sources added that its first products leveraging the Dolby audio technologies are the high-end Aspire Ethos consumer multimedia notebooks. Dolby will be demonstrating these at the 2011 CES (News - Alert). The Aspire Z Series all-in-one PCs from Acer will also feature new Dolby PC Entertainment Experience technologies.

In a press release, Jim Wong, president of IT Products Global Operations at Acer, Inc., stated, “Acer strives to improve people’s lives through technology and we know that high-quality audio and cinematic surround sound are important pieces of the overall PC consumer experience. For this reason, we continue to partner with Dolby to bring its industry leading PC Entertainment Experience to our consumer PC lines.”

“The Aspire Ethos and Aspire Z Series are professionally tuned to achieve this goal, turning digital consumption into a truly captivating sensation,” Wong added.

Dolby officials explained that the latest generation of Dolby PC audio technologies creates a solution that is suitable to provide optimum PC audio entertainment experience. The challenges that affect audio quality are stereo content that lacks cinematic surround sound, poorly mixed content with unintelligible dialogue, and inconsistent volume levels across entertainment sources.

Also, laptop speakers are small, not loud enough, and cause distortion when volume is maximized. These shortcomings are overcome with Dolby PC audio technologies.

Ramzi Haidamus, executive vice president of Sales and Marketing for Dolby Laboratories (News - Alert), said, “Dolby understands that the traditional ways people consume content are evolving, and increasingly the computer is becoming a central entertainment hub through which music, movies, and games are enjoyed.”

The Dolby PC Entertainment Experience program offers two technology suites. Dolby Home Theater v4 is capable of delivering immersing surround sound and high fidelity audio for all forms of entertainment content. Dolby Advanced Audio v2 delivers a consistent listening experience and virtual surround sound via built-in PC speakers and high-fidelity audio for all forms of entertainment content.

Some other features offered by Dolby Advanced Audio v2 and Dolby Home Theater v4 are surround virtualizer, volume leveler, volume maximizer, graphic equalizer, audio optimizer and audio regulator.

According to Dolby sources, it also created a new consumer interface app that gives people easy access to enable, disable and customize new audio technologies on their laptops.

TMC recently reported that Nokia (News - Alert) will soon be incorporating Dolby surround sound technologies into select handsets worldwide.
