Dutch Cable Operator Caiway Selects Edgeware Video Server Platform
By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor
Dutch cable operator Caiway has selected Edgeware’s Orbit-2X video server platform to drive its IPTV (News - Alert) service.
According to Edgeware officials, the company’s orbit video delivery platform features built-in capability to record live TV channels, enabling cable and telco operators to deploy on-demand TV services within their existing networks.
Company officials said that each Orbit-2X (News - Alert) server streams 20 Gbps of video to 16,000 concurrent users from just one half depth rack unit, while consuming less than 85W of power and requiring virtually no maintenance.
“We chose Edgeware’s industry leading solution which enables us to easily and quickly add advanced time-shifted TV service, including network personal video recording – or nPVR in the near future, and very cost-efficiently scale these services as the uptake and subscriber base grows, said Aart Verbree, CEO of Caiway, in a statement.
Mikael Samuelsson, vice president of channel sales of Edgeware, said that his company is very pleased to be selected by Caiway as a vital part of their advanced IPTV service, helping to ensure a highly reliable, scalable and future-proofed solution.
Edgeware is the provider of revolutionary server systems for on-demand TV. The company’s server solution paves the way to the all-on-demand TV future by offering native support for on-demand TV, and by addressing the bandwidth challenges driven by these services.
The Edgeware solution enables video on-demand, time-shifted TV, live Webcasting, Web TV and ad insertion services, with unmatched scalability and at the lowest investment and operational cost on the market.
Earlier this month Edgeware had announced that Armenian service provider, Ucom, has deployed Edgeware’s Orbit-2X video server platform to drive Armenia’s first IPTV service. The Orbit-2X video server platform features built-in capability to record live TV channels, enabling Ucom’s IPTV infrastructure to deliver advanced on-demand services, including network personal video recording and video-on-demand.
