Seagate Technology (News - Alert) announced at the NCTA’s Cable Show that it will introduce its Seagate Showcase storage solution which is a series of products capable of extending the storage capacity of a Digital Video Recorder (DVR). This enables preserving large volumes of favorite movies and television shows.
The company also announced that its Showcase family of products is designed to be compatible with Motorola’s (News - Alert) e-SATA capable high-definition (HD) digital video recorder (DVR) set-top portfolio.
The Showcase products will enable users to store more shows, sporting events and movies. Initial capacities offered is up to 1 TB which allows fans to store up to 200 hours of additional HD movies or 1,000 hours of additional standard definition television.
Setup is easy with the Plug-and-play capability through a standard USB 2.0 or eSATA connection and the design has been made in such a way so as to match the entertainment centers in houses besides matching the look of existing audio video equipment.
“Today’s consumers are constantly demanding more storage for high-definition video and high-fidelity audio and they want it as part of their home entertainment system,” said Patrick King, senior vice president of Seagate’s Consumer Solutions Division. “We believe that the Seagate Showcase product line will take its place alongside the receiver, speaker system and television as a must-have component for the entertainment center. We are pleased to be working with Motorola to enable an enjoyable consumer experience.”
“As consumer video consumption continues to increase at exponential rates, Motorola strives to provide flexible and cost-effective solutions. By demonstrating interoperability with the Seagate Showcase storage solution we are offering consumers additional compelling storage options for their entertainment content,” said Larry Robinson, vice president, Set Top Product Management at Motorola.
Seagate announced that the Showcase family will feature Seagate’s Pipeline HD Series hard drives designed especially for DVRs. Seagate Pipeline HD Series hard drives follow gold standard in high definition performance and have the capacity for optimum acoustics performance. It consumes less power at operation and can support up to 12 simultaneous HD streams. They are suitable for Home Media Centers, being Windows Vista Certified.
Seagate and Motorola will deliver external storage solutions for DVRs. When a Seagate Showcase product is connected to an eSATA cable the capacity of DVRs will be increased greatly thereby avoiding the need to delete favorite movies or shows to accommodate new ones.
