AstriCon 2011, World's Preeminent Asterisk User Conference, to Kick Off in Denver on Oct. 26

By Beecher Tuttle, TMCnet Contributor

The eight annual AstriCon, an Asterisk (News - Alert) user conference and expo dedicated to expanding awareness and knowledge of the highly popular open source platform, will take place from October 26-28 at the Westin Westminster in Denver, Colorado, Asterisk Company Digium (News - Alert) revealed on Monday.

Utilized by developers to create IP PBXs, voice over IP (VoIP) gateways, interactive voice response (IVR) systems and other next-generation communication solutions, Asterisk is one of the most talked-about and commonly-used open source solutions in the telecom space today. Asterisk also provides the platform for Digium’s award-winning Switchvox Unified Communications (News - Alert) (UC) solution.

“As Asterisk continues its phenomenal growth, Digium and the community continue to improve and enhance our capabilities, as was evident last year with the release of Asterisk 1.8," Bryan M. Johns, community director at Digium noted in a statement.

"Digium continues to devote substantial resources to the development of Asterisk, so expect even more Asterisk news at this year’s AstriCon," he added. "Attendees will learn about our progress and benefit from the in-depth technical sessions, networking and detailed case studies that they’ve come to expect from this conference.”

The three-day event will bring together current Asterisk software developers, Digium's channel and technology partners as well as business users from companies of any size. Those who will take part in the annual conference include programmers, open source coders, Web 2.0 integrators and entrepreneurs from around the telecommunications market.

AstriCon 2011 will feature the exhibition of dozens of Asterisk-related products and services, as well as other organized events, all-night coding sessions in the Code Zone and plenty of networking opportunities.

In addition to AstriCon, Digium will also be putting together developer conferences for Asterisk and Asterisk SCF. These events will take place on Monday, October 24 and Friday, October 28, respectively, and will be open to any developer who has contributed code to the Asterisk or Asterisk SCF projects. Attendees will not incur any additional costs beyond the AstriCon registration fee. The events are designed to give members of the Asterisk community a unique opportunity to join their peers and help define the direction of the two projects.

Digium opened registration today and has begun accepting submissions for speaker opportunities. The company said that topics are open, although past sessions have included basic and advanced Asterisk tutorials, call center and enterprise case studies, IP telephony security and product training.

As in previous years and in other events, Digium will be partnering with Technology Marketing Corporation to promote the conference. Companies that are interested in sponsoring AstriCon and participating on the EXPO floor should contact Joe Fabiano at TMC (News - Alert): +1 (203) 852-6800 ext. 132.
