Polycom's Hagerty Named CEO of the Year by Frost

BY JOHANNE TORRES

Provider of unified collaborative communications solutions Polycom, Inc. announced today that its CEO Robert Hagerty was named CEO of the Year for the conferencing and collaboration market by industry analyst firm Frost & Sullivan. According to the firm, Hagerty was recognized for his efforts and continued leadership in driving real-time conferencing and collaboration technologies into mainstream use, maintaining solid financial strength for Polycom and continuing to lead technological advancements and overall market share in a competitive marketplace.

Polycom says that 2004 was a significant year for the company and for Hagerty with the delivery of its new VSX software product platform for video conferencing, a growing presence in VoIP and the expansion of key partnerships with VoIP industry giants such as Avaya, Nortel Networks and software king Microsoft.

Strategic analyst of the conferencing market at Frost & Sullivan Roopam Jain said about Polycom: "With continued customer focus, Polycom also helped define a new category in 2004 called 'unified collaborative communications,' which represents the integration of technologies like voice, video and web collaboration with instant messaging and presence detection into a seamless user experience. This has been Hagerty's vision since he joined the company and he has helped Polycom deliver significant milestones in 2004."

The official announcement was made yesterday during Frost & Sullivan's 2005 Excellence in Information & Communications Technologies Awards Banquet in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Frost & Sullivan CEO of the Year Award is presented each year to the CEO/Executive who has demonstrated leadership excellence within his/her industry. Gains in market share, decisions that improve earnings and grow the company, as well as leadership that affects observable changes in the industry are common CEO performance measurement criterion and important metrics that Frost & Sullivan uses in the CEO of the Year Award selection process.

"I am flattered to receive this award and am pleased to accept it on behalf of the hardworking employees at Polycom who deliver our vision in innovative and useful solutions to customers and partners every day," said Hagerty when receiving the award. "2004 was a watershed year for our industry as conferencing and collaboration became a critical component to an organization's core network and appreciation shifted to the competitive impact real-time communications has on the bottom line. We continued to innovate in each of our product lines and just as importantly laid the groundwork for delivering unified collaborative communications within our partners' environments. We are fast approaching the tipping point when unified collaborative communications will become mainstream on every device and change not only the way we communicate, but how we work."
