Brix Updates Its Free VoIP Quality Testing Portal

BY JOHANNE TORRES

Chelmsford, MA-based Brix Networks (news - alert) announced it updated its VoIP testing tool by releasing Version 3.0 of its portal at www.testyourvoip.com. The company provides Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) performance management and service assurance solutions. TestYourVoIP.com Version 3.0 is free and tests voice quality by enabling users to independently measure the quality of their broadband VoIP connections via a quick, self-initiated test call.

Included in the new version, there is a “Golden Phone” feature which allows users to call selected TestYourVoIP.com test points from either their mobile, WiFi, traditional, or VoIP phones to measure the VoIP quality. The hardware Verifiers at these locations are configured to answer calls just like a real phone and measure the quality of the conversation. This Golden Phone test feature works for users who don’t have broadband yet and existing VoIP users who want to see how well their VoIP phones are working. The tool tests signaling quality (call setup performance), delivery quality (media path network performance), and call quality (overall voice clarity and call experience).

Information regarding performance of various broadband providers will now be available for visitors to TestYourVoIP.com allowing them to compare and determine which ones are currently offering the best VoIP quality to their customers.

"While the broadband VoIP community begins to ramp up at a very fast pace, so do the concerns of both users and prospective users about the quality they are experiencing or can expect to receive," noted Laura Holly, market development manager at Brix Networks. "Our unique Golden Phone testing capability, combined with the new performance comparison and troubleshooting reporting features of TestYourVoIP.com 3.0, significantly enhance the usefulness of the data for visitors. With more than four million visitors to this site since its inception earlier this year, TestYourVoIP.com has proven to be an invaluable resource for cable, DSL or other broadband consumers as it arms them with accurate, objective performance information that empowers them to make informed decisions about their own VoIP quality."

TestYourVoIP.com Version 3.0 also features the ability to view the network path details of test calls to help troubleshoot and pinpoint the source of problems using Brix Networks’ VoIP Traceroute Analysis. The real-time VoIP quality can now be viewed at-a-glance across the entire TestYourVoIP.com network via the colorful VoIP Weather Report. And users can now save, view and compare their personal test reports over time.

Brix established a new TestYourVoIP.com test point in Sydney, Australia. This latest site joins other established TestYourVoIP.com testing locations in Boston, Helsinki, London, Montreal and San Jose.
