Security is a huge concern for companies in these days of extreme vulnerability of sensitive data. More often than not, the security breaches take place in a company mainly because of the inappropriate use of the company data by the employees. To tackle this problem, Trusted Computer Solutions (TCS) has announced that its automated Operating System (OS) hardening tool, Security Blanket, now supports Novell SUSE as well as openSUSE and Fedora 11.

SUSE Linux Enterprise provides the solution for Linux/Windows virtualization to help the clients get consolidation and make disaster recovery investments deliver greater ROI. SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and OpenOffice.org work well with Windows and Microsoft (News - Alert) Office.

This new version of Security Blanket offers role-based access control (RBAC) and a JAVA-based administration console. The product already supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, and Oracle (News - Alert) Enterprise Linux. With the addition of RBAC, customers can allow users to only perform operations that are appropriate for their specific roles.

“Enhancements to Security Blanket are the direct result of customers’ requests,” stated Ed Hammersla, chief operating officer for Trusted Computer Solutions in a release. “SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is helping customers take advantage of commodity servers which saves money and reduces power consumption. Our goal is to have Security Blanket support the majority of server operating systems that are running business and mission critical applications.”

If the customer wants to enforce his own customized security policies, this is made possible with the Profile Builder. By searching a variety of predefined options to create the appropriate lock down configurations, even a novice system administrator can develop strong security guidelines.

The company recently announced that Security Blankettrade; 4.0, the company's award-winning automated lock down solution, is officially in evaluation for an Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2 certification under the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS). Commercial security products and systems used by the United States government, primarily the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intelligence Community, require this evaluation.
