Trusted Computer Solutions Security Blanket Product Enters Common Criteria Evaluation and Verification Scheme

HERNDON, Va. --(Business Wire)-- Trusted Computer Solutions, Inc. (TCS), a leading developer of cross domain and cyber security solutions, today announced that Security Blanket™ 4.0, the company's award-winning automated lock down solution, is officially in evaluation for an Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2 certification under the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS). Commercial security products and systems used by the United States government, primarily the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intelligence Community, require this evaluation.

Security Blanket, which is widely used by the DoD and other government agencies, automates the lock down or hardening of Linux operating systems to meet security requirements. One of the requirements the solution supports is defined by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and referred to as the STIGs (Secure Technical Implementation Guidelines). All production Linux servers used by the DoD and many other agencies must be hardened to meet the DISA STIGs and maintain compliance.

"Security Blanket's automation of operating system lock down helps agencies comply with security standards such as the DISA STIGs, and saves the government time and money," stated Ed Hammersla, Chief Operating Officer, Trusted Computer Solutions. "Our decision to enter the Common Criteria evaluation, demonstrates TCS' commitment to deliver solutions that support the U.S. government's needs and provide them affirmation that our solutions meet the assurance goals identified by this evaluation and validation certificate." Common Criteria provides assurance that security products and systems adhere to a set of established, internationally recognized guidelines (ISO 15408) that define a common infrastructure. The standard is made-up of predetermined assurance levels, each more stringent than the previous one. An accredited testing lab is required to perform a rigorous evaluation on a product against the requirements determined by the assurance level. The governments of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the Netherlands developed Common Criteria. Twenty-five countries, regardless of what country the product was evaluated in, accept Common Criteria evaluations.
