Unisys Launches SQL Server Based on Microsoft Technology

Unisys (News - Alert) Corp., a company that offers information technology services and solutions, today announced the release of its high-performance “SQL Server 2008” solution which maximizes the power of Microsoft (News - Alert) SQL Server 2008.

 

The solution offers clients “record-setting speed and power to drive their critical applications across their enterprise,” according to Unisys officials.

 

Also, Unisys SQL Server provides a foundation for the “future” support of other technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platform in a real-time infrastructure, company officials say.

 

Moreover, officials said that in delivering services to assist customers in deploying SQL Server 2008 in high transaction environments, their company has formed a number of best practices for optimizing the loading and storage of data, officials say.

 

These best practices give many enterprises a “head start” in maximizing their investments in Microsoft SQL Server 2008, said officials.

 

Officials said that Unisys is also expanding its portfolio of Microsoft services and solutions, which will help customers to capitalize on the benefits of new features introduced in SQL Server 2008, such as data compression, Resource Governor and support for new data types.

 

Additionally, Unisys says it’s building on the SQL Server 2008 extract, transform, load (ETL) benchmarking already established. Earlier this year, Unisys and Microsoft presented benchmark test results that they said demonstrated the strength of the joint Unisys and Microsoft solution.

 

Officials said that using a 64-core Unisys ES7000 Enterprise Server system, Unisys and Microsoft engineers “successfully “loaded one terabyte of data using SQL Server 2008 Integration Services in less than 30 minutes.

 

According to Unisys and Microsoft, the extract, transform, load tools included in SQL Server 2008 performed better than comparable tools from other database vendors in similar workloads.

 

Dan Neault, general manager of SQL Server at Microsoft Corp., said, “Performance benchmarks like the ETL benchmark demonstrate the benefits that our joint customers will enjoy when deploying Microsoft and Unisys technologies together.”
