Elsevier Unveils New Information Resource Package for Engineering Schools

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Elsevier, a publisher of scientific, technical, and medical information, recently unveiled a new offer giving independent engineering schools direct access to two key engineering information sources (ScienceDirect and Engineering Village) in one package.

The new Elsevier Engineering School Edition is only available for independent engineering schools located in the Europe and Asia Pacific region that do not offer doctoral degrees. It provides access to key engineering journals along with reference materials in the  ScienceDirect database.
Elsevier claims that ScienceDirect houses more than a quarter of the world’s full text scientific, technical, and medical articles.

The Elsevier Engineering School Edition also offers specialized engineering search functions through Engineering Information’s Engineering Village, a Web-based discovery platform that caters to the information needs of engineers.

Engineering Village is equipped with powerful search tools along with an intuitive user interface and content sources, to offer engineers, researchers and students with the exact information they are searching for. It also contains a definitive bibliographic database including engineering literature called the Engineering Information’s Compendex.

Engineering Village and ScienceDirect will provide users the ability to search scholarly engineering literature and access peer reviewed full-text content for physical sciences and engineering titles respectively. All reference materials, journals, and abstracts are linked together to let users access the exact engineering information they need with ease.

Marten Stavenga, Elsevier’s global business development manager for the academic market, said in a statement, “Independent engineering schools have been asking us for an easy and convenient way of accessing the broad range of specialized information which they require but without multiple subscriptions. Elsevier Engineering School Edition is an ideal solution which combines the best of two platforms in one offer. It is a convenient, transparent one-stop-shop for engineering information at a reduced package price.”

Ross Graber, Ei’s director of marketing and strategy, commented, “The expectations that employers now place on engineering graduates are similar, regardless of whether a graduate attends a large research institute or a smaller, vocational college. It’s extremely important that smaller institutions can use the same research methods and information resources that are expected of students as they transition into the workplace. The Elsevier Engineering School Edition was developed to provide teaching institutions with the option to work with the high quality information resources which will contribute to their students’ education.”
