Skype Celebrates Chinese New Year With Free VoIP to China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan

Skype ( News - Alert) has launched its 8-8-8 promotions, giving its users in U.S. and Canada free calls to China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in celebration of the Chinese New Year.
Considered as the most popular and most important traditional Chinese holiday, 2007 Chinese New Year celebration starts on February 18 and lasts until March 5.
“Chinese New Year is one of the world’s biggest celebrations of family, friends and community, and we know many people in the U.S. and Canada rely on Skype to stay connected during this time,” stated Skype North America VP and GM Don Albert. “We’re excited to provide Skype users a way to send New Year’s greetings and well wishes to anyone in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, without paying anything for those calls.”
To avail themselves of 8-8-8 promotions, Skype users must enroll at www.skype.com/YearOfThePig using their usernames and passwords. Non-Skype users must register first at Skype.com to set up their new account.
All U.S. and Canada-based Skype users participating in this 8-8-8 promotion will get free twenty-four minutes of landline or mobile calls to China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan to greet their loved ones in this festive season. Normal cost of these calls is about $0.021 per minute along with $0.039 connection fee. Skype to Skype calls continue to be free anywhere in the world.
