BearingPoint Completes SAP Utilities Projects for Brazilian Energy Co.TMCnet Contributing Editor BearingPoint Inc., a large management and technology consulting firm has completed a large-scale SAP (News - Alert) application-based implementation for Light, a Brazilian energy company. Light has more than 3.8 million consumers in 31 cities in the city and state of Rio de Janeiro. Over two years, the company made significant investments to complete the implementation of the new commercial system. This system is designed to optimize and streamline customer service and commercial processes. BearingPoint has used SAP’s solution for the utilities industry to deliver a customized solution that provides a consolidated view of Light’s clients, integrates communication channels, such as the call center, the company’s self-service website and agencies, manages billing and collection, and provides managerial information. Customers now have direct online access to their past and present information, which has resulted in personalized and faster service. Enhancing Light’s billing efficiency, and providing faster and better controlled field services were few of the project objectives contributing to fraud prevention. Mauro Andrade, Light’s project director expects to have more precision in fraud inspections that are expensive for the company. The solution that was implemented by BearingPoint in March this year had an initial pilot for 80,000 residential customers and 20,000 commercial and governmental customers. The migration of Light’s complete customer base took place between Sept. 23 and Oct. 8. “After a two-week cut-over, during which we migrated the technical, financial and commercial data of 3.8 million consumers, we finished the complete implementation of SAP’s solution,” said Jan Vrins, a managing director in the utilities practice of BearingPoint in a press release. Light is the electricity distribution company for 31 cities in the State of Rio de Janeiro, including the state capital and the Metropolitan Region.
