Mavenir Expands with New India Office
 TMCnet Contributing Editor
A single vision shared by a small group of managers in the telecommunications industry evolved into several successful ventures and now has developed global expansion plans for their emerging network technology company, Mavenir Systems. The company announced today the opening of a Bangalore, India office to continue its development of a solution that transcends barriers dividing core networks.
Mavenir chose the Bangalore location in preparation for market rollouts with top tier Asian, European and North American mobile operators in 2007. The office is designed as a full service facility, housing certain research and development functions in addition to sales, support and operations.
Mavenir, based in the U.S. telecommunications corridor of Richardson, Texas, already has an office in Shanghai, China. The company is launching in Bangalore with three full-time employees and plans to add more than 50 people over the next year.
“Mavenir is committing a significant investment of our resources in India to help expand the technology sector and draw from Bangalore’s extensive talent pool,” said Pulin Patel, chief technology officer (CTO) for Mavenir in a statement. “We plan to use a major portion of $30 million (current and planned funding) to grow this office and build products for our global operator customers.”
Patel went on to add, “similar to Cisco, which recently detailed its $1.1 billion investment in the country, we think India is prime for technology and product development, ready to transition from a service-oriented outsourcing to core product development. Mavenir intends to play a strong role in this transformation.”
The company is making its name with a pioneered solution that enables service providers to use their existing and next-generation networks to facilitate rapid product expansion without significant product investment. The solution also provides seamless deployment of multimedia services across mobile and fixed domains to allow both consumers and enterprises to control their services, choosing when, where and on what device they receive voice, video and communication services with seamless continuity and optimum network delivery.
Mavenir was launched in early 2005 by industry veterans Rashad Ali, Achal Patel, and Pulin Patel, who co-founded and served as executives for IP Mobile, which was sold to Cisco in 2000 for $425 million. A new president for the company was recently announced in Pardeep Kohli, who will also serve as CEO. Kohli’s credentials include co-founding and serving as CEO for Spatial Wireless. All global technology and product development is the responsibility of CTO Pulin Patel.
Mavenir has recognized and intends to capitalize on the importance of speed to market in the telecommunications industry. The company is focusing on solutions that will enable service providers to utilize what they have to maximize their opportunities and get their products and services to market faster. The time element can make the difference in a provider’s success in the market. By responding to this need, Mavenir is generating significant opportunities and demand in the market.
