Announces First Ever Wearable PC Summit
Technology Marketing
Corporation, TMC, is hosting its first annual Wearable
PC Summit. This special half-day workshop will be held on May 13, 2002
at the Boston World Trade Center in Boston, Massachusetts. This
one-of-a-kind event will showcase the most advanced organization level
wearable computing solutions.
Previously restricted to academic labs and research institutions such as
MIT's Technology Media Lab, wearable computing technology is on the fast
track towards commercial acceptance. Designed to be worn on your person,
always with you, comfortable, and easy to keep and use, wearable computers
-- while sometimes narrowly defined as smart clothing -- share more
broad-ranging characteristics, such as: being portable while operational;
supporting hands-free use; providing the liberal use of environmental
sensors; providing the ability to convey information to its user even when
not in active use; and supporting always-on functionality.
TMC President Rich Tehrani believes computers that used to fill a
building can now fit on a desktop, and likewise recent PCs are less
powerful than today's handheld computers. "The evolution of this
trend has led to technology that is worn on our person, allowing workers
to accomplish many once complicated tasks with ease and allowing
organizations that rely on real-time information to be as nimble as jungle
cats," said Tehrani.
Wearable PC Summit offers a first-class forum for learning how wearable
computers -- when effectively deployed in an organization -- can
dramatically improve productivity and increase profitability. Only
wearable computing allows its users to access volumes of data on a
heads-up display without the need to leave their working environment.
Marc Robins, TMC's vice president of publications and trade shows feels
the strength of Wearable PC Summit lies in the pioneering companies
participating. "Starting with Tangis, Symbol, Modezilla, Farpoint
Group, Vectrasense and Venture Development Corporation, this super
workshop is filled with presenters who can help ALL attendees -- from
those at square one of the process, to those in their second or third
generation deployment of wearable computing. There is simply no other
event where attendees can focus on key technical issues, such as
minimizing weight and battery life, improving reliability and creating
scalable systems that will improve productivity," said Robins.
Wearable PC Summit offers a first-class forum for learning what the
wearable computing industry has in store for the future, but also will
provide an in-depth understanding of the opportunities, applications, and
special considerations you need to make before deciding how wearable
computers can fit into your enterprise computing strategy.
